Pencader Carnival 2012

This years’ activities got underway on Wednesday August 1st with a Bingo evening, held in the Marquee. Kindly organised and run by Selina Jones, Maes Cader with food being provided by Eric and Janet Jones on the BBQ.

Thursday evening’s event was a car Treasure Hunt, kindly planned and organised by Rhian Jones, Penllain, Dolgran. Twenty four cars ventured out on an exciting route and twenty four safely returned. After marking, the winners were announced as Huw, Vanessa, Steffan and Ffion Jones, Glasfryn. In second place were Alun & Eileen Davies, Brynycoed. A very successful night again.

Friday evening kicked off with ‘It’s a Knockout’ events on the playing field where six teams competed in rain, through water and more fun and games. The ladies won the day! This was followed by a Club DJ and decks.

Saturday morning, August 4th started with pouring rain which continued until mid afternoon. Everything was flooded, the sports had to be cancelled and matters looked very dark at one time but thanks to the local workforce, water was pumped out, mud was brushed away, wood was brought in to be used as platforms and a load of gravel shovelled onto the marquee entrance. Without this help given by these willing locals, things would have been in a very sorry state and our gratitude is immense to all of you. You all know who you are, I am not naming names as I might unintentionally leave someone out. Diolch o galon boys. Thankfully, the sun came out in the afternoon which helped dry things out quite successfully.
There were several stalls in the marquee, Bucking Bronco, slides, stocks and various outside activities once the rain abated! The sports were held, organised by Andy Gordon and friends. Winners were given Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.

On Saturday night NEWSHAN entertained and were enthusiastically received by the crowd. Sunday, the last day, dawned and a Dog Show organised by Christine Harrison took place in the marquee. This again was well supported and all had a great time.
The carnival judges were Dr & Mrs Gerald Coles, whose job proved difficult at times.

After a long and tiring 5 days the 2012 carnival was over. A great success again this year thanks to the hard work put in by many loyal members. Our thanks go to all local businesses who donated raffle prizes, local people who gave donations, people who helped out with the food, behind the bar, sold raffles, organised games/events and last but
certainly not least to all who attended the events.
